Powered by coiled springs, Da Vinci’s Self-Propelling Cart was well ahead of its time in design and functionality, but now it can finally be brought to life with this fun to build and fun to operate plastic model kit. It is impressive enough that the cart could move on its own, but Da Vinci even incorporated steering and brakes into the design. Releasing the brake would propel the cart forward and at the predetermined direction. These innovative features are accurately recreated in the Academy version of Da Vinci’s Self-Propelling Cart model kit. Once assembled, power can be added to the cart by winding the spring, while a lever allows for a straight course or one that veers to the left or right. When ready, a button releases the brake and sends the cart on its way without any gas, batteries, or driver.
This Da Vinci model kit snaps together and is molded in a wood-like brown, so no paint or glue is necessary to assemble it. Throughout the construction process, modelers will have to ensure all gears are in proper alignment with the spring and mechanism with a built-in flat spring as they assemble this unique Da Vinci model kit. Even though the designs for the cart were put onto paper around the year 1500, Academy models has transcribed those drawings into an easy to follow series of assembly instructions. Once pieces are removed from the sprues, they easily snap together for a relatively quick assembly process.
The Da Vinci Self-Propelling Cart Plastic Model Kit from Academy has the Following Features:
